You can select Insert Image Frame from the Insert menu. There are three ways to insert an image frame in Scribus: To place an image onto a page in Scribus, you first have to insert an image frame. If you wish to position these bitmap images in your document, the first thing you will need to do is insert an image frame. Bitmap images are composed of little square dots, or picture cells, hence the term pixels. However, if you are importing photos into Scribus from a digital camera, these are likely to have been stored in another bitmap format called JPEG. The advantage here is that vector images can be scaled to any size without suffering distortion or loss of detail. Most of the shapes and the line art that you will be importing into Scribus come in the form of vector graphics. There are basically two kinds of image formats that you can add to your page layout: bitmap images and vector drawings.

After that, I will explain the various image formats that are supported by Scribus, and finally, I will show you how to draw straight lines and how to create shapes. In the first half of this chapter, I will show you how to insert an image frame onto the page, how to import images into Scribus, and how to edit things in it. As with text files, the trick is to think ahead, and develop a carefully considered workflow this will save you time and effort, and disk space. You are generally better off creating your image files in these image editing programs, but the good news is that Scribus also contains a set of graphics tools that will allow you to import, edit, and lay out your pictures. As with text files, the graphical images are often created outside Scribus using image editors such as Gimp, Photoshop, and Inkscape. So it is vitally important that you treat your handling of graphical images with the same degree of planning and attention to workflow that you did with your text files. In print publishing, graphical images are often the most attractive part of a document they help to convey meaning and they help to catch the readerвЂ™s attention.
